Cultural and material research on the stinging nettle.
This study explores the stinging nettle as a valuable and cultivated plant, as well as its use as a raw material for fibers in textile manufacturing. It highlights the appeal of utilizing resources that are so prevalent around us that we might overlook their quality. A simple plain weave is used as the base of the fabric, with the design process being significantly influenced by the material.
Both jackets are made from self-woven fabrics, and the design focuses on the material, lacking closures or decorative elements, which results in almost object-like jackets with wide sleeves and a round neckline. The warp yarn of the fabric is composed of 50% cotton, 25% hemp, and 25% nettle fibers, while the weft yarn is made entirely of 100% nettle.
